Digitalization

The digitalization model takes analog services provided by the state and transfers them to the digital world. This is a pure translation from the analog world to the Internet, without changing the processes of service provision (and certainly not the services themselves).

Digitization Plan 2019–2022

New Zealand

In New Zealand, the National Library developed a four-year plan to move analog processes into the digi-tal world in order to increase accessibility. However, it is important to note that implementation does not encompass the integration of new processes known as “born digital” objectives. This allows the project to focus fully on the implementation of old processes.

Exchange of land use rights in Sever do Vouga

Portugal

Sometimes Portuguese families have land that they do not cultivate, even though it would be suitable for agricultural production. As a result, certain regions have available land that can be utilized for economic development purposes. In addition, rampant unemployment among the young can be combatted when such individuals are able to work the land as farmers. Through a network of non-profit organizations, state administrations, and private companies, a system for the exchange of land use rights was estab-lished that has led to more intensive cultivation of available land.

Allmend Corporations

Switzerland

Individual regions in Switzerland have used bartering for decades. When Napoleon pushed back the feudal system and influence of the monasteries in Switzerland, the local inhabitants took control of lands and forests. In order to be able to cultivate the land, it was divided into smaller, independent Allmend corporations formed by local families. The families were given the right to farm the allotted lands and forests. In return, participants were obligated to assume responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the exchanged object or service.
